THEIA is an augmented reality (AR) app that transforms a visit to the California Academy of Sciences into a surreal experience using West’s colorful photos of flora and fauna. Visitors to the Academy can download and use the free app on their phones to explore the Academy’s building, garden, and Living Roof in a new light.
There are six activation zones throughout the museum with images and instructions for activating the AR installations. To activate, visitors can find the THEIA vinyl decal on the floor within each zone and launch the app. As the user pans the area around them through the app, they see West’s images within the environment and can take photos using their phone’s screen capture function.
