In July of 2019, West was named the artist-in-residence for San Francisco’s California Academy of Sciences. Throughout the course of her residency, she worked with various departments within the museum to photograph scientific specimens from the museum’s collections.
West used the photos to create two unique installations; FLORA DOME and the THEIA augmented reality app.
FLORA DOME is currently located in the museum’s West Garden. West’s photos of plant life are displayed on a 7’ tall 11’ wide geodesic dome installation, comprised of 102 unique photographic panels. The dome is illuminated from within, casting a vibrant colorful light across the garden at night.
